Less than a month to go

Gidday,

Apologises for neglecting to provide any update over the past month.
I can’t believe how fast time has passed – it is now officially under a month until I start work at Disney – very exciting.

I am starting to think that I am just about ready to leave: flights booked, insurance purchased, have my visa, accommodation and airport transport booked, post Disney travel close to being finalised, received my UQ Advantage Grant (just need to put the money on an ANZ travel card), Disney paper work complete, enrolled in a Corporate Analysis course at Disney. I just need to order my Disney AU/NZ program t-shirt (updated design), finish shopping (not complaining though), pack and research the parks and Orlando in more depth. Everything will be complete before New Year’s Day.

So, on the visa – mum and I ventured down to Sydney last week for a few days. The truth is I was really nervous about the appointment incase anything went wrong or I had the wrong document or something, but everything (thankfully) went smoothly and to plan (no hiccups). It just involved security, fingerprints, questions and more questions – in and out in 45 minutes! I did, however, make the right decision of booking my appointment for 8am, when I left there was huge cues.
Apart from all of this I have started thinking about differences in our cultures including language. I am trying to think of words that are different – my list so far includes:
     -          Car boot   = trunk
     -          Lollies = candy
     -          Chemist = drug store
     -          Reception = lobby
     -          Shopping trolley = shopping cart
     -          Biscuits = cookies
     -          Cafe = diner
     -          Esky = cooler
     -          Luggage = baggage
     -          Tomato sauce = ketchup
     -          Petrol = gasoline
     -          Autumn = fall
     -         Taxi = cab

Please feel free to share any you know of or let me know if I am wrong.

I promise there will be more posts over the coming few weeks before my departure and will stay true to my very first promise of weekly updates from the USA.

But in the meantime, enjoy the joy of the festive seasons and if you can, put a smile on someone’s face.

xx

PS: you will notice the redesign of this page. I decided it was time for a revamp (I love change and re-designing!)
